Fire and Water Disaster Recovery

No one can predict when a pipe will burst, an electrical short will start a fire or know the path a storm will take. The only thing we can do is be prepared when fire, smoke or water damage does occur. Part of that preparation is knowing who to call to put it all back together.

The devastation from a fire or flood effects not just the possessions of the owner, but the owner themselves. If you have ever experienced a loss you know how valuable a well thought out plan can be. A plan to first get everyone out of harm’s way, and then to make the recovery from the disaster as easy as possible, is invaluable. Knowing who to call for help after the disaster can save you added emotional distress. Steamatic is in the business of putting people’s lives back together as painlessly as possible.

For over 50 years, Steamatic has provided complete restoration services for residential, commercial and industrial buildings damaged by fire, water, storm and accident.

Steamatic has locations worldwide qualified to handle everything from small residential disasters, to large commercial buildings and industrial facilities. Steamatic is a preferred contractor for the majority of insurance companies.

Proven Procedures, Equipment and Chemicals

Steamatic's team of experienced engineers and chemists has developed special chemicals, equipment and procedures to treat fire, smoke, soot fallout, heat and water damage.

Through extensive research and development, Steamatic produces its own line of proven chemicals and cleaning compounds. They are safe, reliable and effective because all are formulated under rigid quality control standards. Steamatic chemicals and cleaning compounds attract and absorb odour-causing elements rather than simply covering up smells. Steamatic has also developed its own line of carpet, furniture and air duct cleaning equipment that carries nine patents.

The result is the cleanest, most sanitary commercial cleaning available.

Content Restoration

It will surprise many people that items damaged by water, fire and smoke can be returned to pre-loss condition with the right treatment.

However, special consideration must be taken to ensure contents are restored properly to prevent mould and mildew growth. Even a light coating of soot could be permanently embedded in items if professional restoration techniques are not used. Steamatic technicians are extensively trained to handle all types of disasters. Items that can generally be restored include:

  • carpeting
  • furniture
  • clothing
  • china
  • silver
  • antiques
  • heirlooms
  • appliances
  • electronics
  • photographs

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Cleaning

After a fire the HVAC system should not be used until it has been thoroughly cleaned and deodorised. Every part of the system can often be restored– even the ductwork, using Steamatic's source removal system. The Steamatic patented air duct cleaning process can help eliminate smoke odours and remove or seal soot fallout particles, preventing the further flow of airborne contaminants.

Microbial Remediation - Mould Removal

Mould on books, papers, inside wall cavities, ceiling tiles, and other building contents is not uncommon. Personnel complaining of runny noses, itchy eyes and sore throats is a scenario becoming all too common. Microbial contamination is rampant in many buildings. The key issue is to manage and fix the problem before it gets out of hand.

The spores of fungi are always present in the air and on objects. They lie dormant, waiting for the perfect conditions of high humidity and warm temperatures to grow. Once growth begins, it spreads quickly devouring everything in its path. Since microbial growth is exponential, quick response is imperative to control the menace. Dehumidification is effective in arresting the growth, but the active growth must be stopped and spores must be removed.

Steamatic is expert in the remediation of libraries, record centres, public buildings & spaces, museum artefacts, special collections, office buildings, schools and other facilities that have become infected. Steamatic's trained personnel can handle all phases of remediation to stabilise the environment, remove the mould growth, and return your building and contents to a safe and healthy condition.

Structural Dehumidification

Damage can occur from water and soot resulting in floors buckling, acoustical tile damage, and water damage in dead air spaces between walls. Steamatic can perform dehumidification by two methods– refrigerant and desiccant. The most appropriate system is used depending on the climate and/or temperature. Steamatic’s custom techniques are used to dehumidify, clean, seal and deodorise hard surfaces and structures, even in difficult to access areas.
