Extended exposure to high moisture levels can lead to mould growth under floor coverings, inside walls, and in other hard-to-reach areas. Some types of mould can damage furnishings, destroy wood, and compromise the integrity of a structure. Acting quickly to address mould contamination can reduce structural damage and restore a healthy environment.
Our Mould Remediation Process
At Steamatic, we follow strict industry protocols, using advanced solutions, procedures, and the latest equipment to provide superior mould remediation services. We adhere to the IICRC Standard for Professional Mould Remediation (S520).
Key Steps in Mould Remediation
Initial Assessment and Authorisation
An initial assessment is performed to establish the extent and cause of the mould contamination.
If the mould is a result of water damage, work on any water damage restoration stops immediately until mould remediation authorisation has been granted.
Professional Evaluation
An independent Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) may be called upon to assess the situation and establish a remediation protocol.
If no IEP is required (depending on scale), Steamatic Australia can begin removing the mould following industry standards and best practices.
Safety and Containment
Our technicians wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection.
We set up containment areas to prevent cross-contamination, including walls, ceilings, and floors.
Negative Pressure and Air Scrubbing
We place affected areas under negative pressure where visible mould growth is present to prevent health risks.
Air scrubbers with HEPA filters are installed to reduce airborne spores around the affected areas.
Dehumidification and Material Removal
Dehumidifiers dry out the environment.
Porous materials like underlay, carpet, plasterboard, rotted timber, and insulation are removed as they cannot be treated.
Safe Disposal and Cleaning
Contaminated materials are disposed of to prevent cross-contamination.
Timber structures are HEPA vacuumed and sanded.
Antimicrobial products are applied and removed via hand wiping or spraying.
Post-Remediation
After remediation, an air scrubber runs for 24 hours to filter ambient air and reduce spores.
The area is left to dry, with all building materials dried to pre-loss conditions.
An independent entity performs air sampling to ensure microbial presence is within acceptable levels.
Insurance Coverage
If water damage did not cause the mould, we notify the responsible party and await their direction.
Our comprehensive mould remediation process ensures your property is safe, healthy, and restored to its original condition.
